Award-wining director Wladyka will discuss his film Manos Sucias at 7:30 p.m. on May 14 at Pelham’s The Picture House, 175 Wolfs Lane, after a special screening of the Spike Lee-produced movie that drew rave reviews at the Tribeca Film Festival.
Wladyka earned Tribeca’s Best New Narrative Director Award and a Special Jury Award at the Huelva American Film Festival for Manos Sucias, which follows a desperate fisherman and a naïve young man as they traverse the war-torn region while towing a narco-torpedo filled with millions of dollars of cocaine below their small boat.
The movie, shot entirely on location along Colombia’s war-scarred coast, seeks to offer a rare glimpse of the drug trade’s devastating effects, rather than glamorize narcotics smuggling.
Wladyka is a Faculty Fellow, and recipient of the Spike Lee Fellowship Award at NYU's Tisch Gradate Film School. Manos Sucias is his feature film debut.
Tickets to the screening and post-film discussion are $12 for general admission, $10 for students and senior citizens, and $6 for TPH members. They are available at thepicturehouse.org or at the box office, 175 Wolfs Lane, Pelham, N.Y. Contact TPH online or by calling (914) 738-3161 for more information.
